Welcome to TimePieces: UNB Undergraduate History Journal!

TimePieces was founded in 2000 and is published annually by the Executive of the University of New Brunswick (Fredericton) Undergraduate History Society, with the aid of various professors over the course of its now 13 Volumes.

Volume 13 (2011-2012) is the second time that the UNB History Society has published TimePieces exclusively online. Readers can also now access back volumes from previous years, which were scanned by the UNB History Society’s Vice President (2010-2011) Matt Douglass. The History Society executive of 2011-2012 would like to thank Matt Douglass, Dr. Erin Morton and last year’s Society for all of their hard work in getting the online version of TimePieces up and running. Volumes 1-12 of TimePieces have had numerous individuals involved in their publication, and words cannot express the thanks that they are owed.

In recent years, TimePieces has usually consisted of five papers with submissions mainly stemming from History Honours (5000-level) students in their third- or fourth-year of study. This year, the History Society has taken a slightly new approach to the journal, one that we hope will continue in future volumes. Specifically, Volume 13 consists of thirteen papers drawn from every undergraduate level in the program (1000, 2000, 3000, 4000, and 5000). The Society’s goal in this initiative was to publish a volume that would represent broadly the undergraduate student work in UNB’s Department of History.

If you would like to submit an undergraduate paper that you have written for a UNB Department of History course for consideration for publication in TimePieces, please respond to the 2012-2013 call for papers (the call is normally issued early in the Fall Term). For more information regarding TimePieces and the submission process, please contact one of the current History Society Executive members at hist@unb.ca or the Department of History’s Student Liaison, Dr. Erin Morton, at emorton@unb.ca.

Thank you for your interest and enjoy!

Nadia Arsenault, TimePieces Editor and History Society Secretary, 2011-2012
